Train4Food, who offer online food hygiene and safety training, have targeted one of the fastest growing economies for new revenue by localising their website for the Indian market, all with the help of Web-Translations’ International Blast service.

Yorkshire based Train4food work in partnership with ASET and is the only company to link directly to the Awarding Body. The company spotted a gap in the Indian market and decided to put their experience in the food safety and hygiene industry to good use. Exploiting the revenue opportunity was straight forward owing to the fact that the courses are all online and require no computer skills.

Although Train4Food will obviously benefit financially, the Indian food industry is also set to gain in terms of an improved awareness of food safety and hygiene practices, which can only be a positive thing.

The project began with the home page’s content being rewritten for an Indian audience. The aim in this was also to highlight the benefits of such a course as hygiene and safety standards in India are decidedly less established than they are in the UK.

Links to irrelevant pages were removed and images were localised to be more concurrent with Indian culture. The payment gateways were also localised, with prices amended to be more in line with the Indian market and currencies displayed in both Dollars and Indian Rupees for a facilitated user experience.

In order to monitor the number and location of visitors to the site, as well as how long they stayed on each page and what they purchased, web statistics tracking code was added to the whole site.

To increase visitor confidence in any new site it is important to secure an appropriate domain name which, in turn, this helps with search engine optimisation. www.train4food.in was therefore secured along with virtual hosting in India, completing the project in a little less than four days.

The most important thing in a project of this nature is, obviously, to drive traffic to the newly localised pages. This can be done in a number of ways and includes submitting the site to five search engines and generating four, good quality in bound links. Both processes help to drive traffic to the site. It is now just a matter of sitting back and waiting for the orders to come through.
